Long before tourism was driven by the ‘road-trip’, Nova Scotia was famed a world class destination for her Northwoods. Sports from around the world, many from the American eastern seaboard, would travel to Nova Scotia by steamship or train to spend weeks or months exploring Nova Scotia’s wilderness by canoe. Trout fishing, moose and caribou hunting were an important draw back then, but currently most prefer to shoot with a camera– however the trout fishing is still amazing. The popularity of Nova Scotia as a leisure destination was so powerful it gave rise to dozens of luxury resorts and lodges, many of which are still in operation today (The Legendary Milford House, White Point Beach Resort, The Whitman Inn) Although much has changed over the last century, Kejimkujik and The Tobeatic have protected a vast tract of premium Nova Scotian wilderness which remains to day as it did long ago– a world class paddling destination.
